The Accent WallMonday, July 23, 2012
Hey friends today I want to share with you my "Accent Wall". When I moved into my new place I decided to change my entire decor. It was a bigger place so I had more to work with and the ideas where running wild.
Before I moved I knew I wanted my living room a color similar to what "Carrie Bradshaw" from Sex and the City had when she gave her apartment a makeover. I have always liked the "Black and White" combination so that was definitely going to be part of the decor especially since I had a few pieces that I could use from my previous apartment. I decided that the color scheme would be a similar blue, lime, and red, with black and white accents.
When I moved in I began painting my living room. I chose the color "Isle of Capri" by Behr. Once the entire living room was painted I decided that I was going to do an accent wall. It took weeks before I decided on what it was that I wanted. I thought of black and white stripes but I just wasn't loving that enough. I even thought of stenciling some flowers but I knew in short time I was going to want to change that. Finally I decided that it was going to be stripes but not the usual two tone stripes. I wanted a pattern. I removed the color Red from the equation and began to sketch my striped wall. Since I had painted all the walls isle of capri I had to decide which one I was going to stripe because I wanted a different base color. I went with "Manhattan Mist", I believe it's also by Behr. Once that dried I started drawing my lines. Some were wider than others. When I tell you that it was a project, believe me it was and I almost gave up.
Once my wall was complete and I removed the tape I fell in love with it. It was definitely one of a kind. I absolutely love walking into my house and seeing this beautiful work of art!
Accent walls are a great focal point for any room. Whether you choose to do one color or a pattern, chose something that goes with your personality and you will love it forever. Keep in mind that it's just paint, if you're not happy with the results you can always change it.
